The Painters Gaze
The abstract, concealed landscape and still-life are constant themes of inspiration. Exploring these suspended narratives through the painting process acts as a catalyst. These selected artworks are created by using diverse dimensions, scales and a variety of materials. Below are examples of how I incorporate oil on linen, egg tempera on gesso board, acrylic on canvas and pen and ink on paper, inviting the viewer to experience an emotive and ambient journey through the senses. As part of this process I make instinctive aesthetic decisions involving colour, hue, tone and texture which create rhythm and harmony. The repetitive application of paint and the constant scraping back reveals mark-marking techniques, which express the imaginary and fragmented language of form, time and space through the two-dimensional picture plane.
